JO-ANN DELL

Jo-Ann's love of acrylics began when she learned the art of tole painting. She began working with saw blades in 1997 after obtaining discarded saws from one of the local mills in Mission, BC.

Jo-Ann saw this as a different medium to work with and a unique form of recycling.

This art form was well received locally. Jo-Ann's neighbour saw her working on two long saws on her deck and gave her more saws to paint, thrilled at the results.

Jo-Ann also does custom commission work. One lady had a saw that was her dad's and wanted a train on it with the number and station as a memento of her dad's life.

Other smaller pieces have been used as clock faces.

Jo-Ann owned a craft store for 10 years in Mission, BC. During that time, she travelled to Oregon to learn tole painting from Kay Ludlow. Another influential teacher was Karen Hubbard who taught Jo-Ann techniques for painting woodland animals.

A favourite part of Jo-Ann's life was taking these seminars and then coming home and teaching others.

Jo-Ann now calls the remote area of 70 Mile House, BC, her home. She and her husband live on a picturesque 40 acres on a bluff overlooking the meandering Bonaparte River. They enjoy clean living including the benefits of solar energy.

Jo-Ann continues to enjoy a multitude of crafts and actively engages in recycling objects in her art. She believes "you can paint anything that's not living."
